Managing student movement efficiently requires clear communication, and sometimes you might notice a pass highlighted in your history.
What is an Unexpected PIN?
An unexpected PIN occurs when a staff member who is not directly associated with a student's pass enters their PIN to interact with it.
To the Pass system, a "directly associated" adult is either:
The designated departing from teacher.
The intended destination staff member.
The adult is associated with the location.
If any other teacher, administrator, or staff member uses their PIN to update, end, or alter that pass, the system circles the name in Red on the Pass.
How to Identify an Unexpected PIN in the System
You can easily spot these instances by reviewing your dashboard and History.
Look for any pass record flagged with a red highlighted name.
This colored highlight indicates that an unexpected PIN was used to interact with that specific pass.
📝 Real-World Example: > A student creates a pass from their regular classroom teacher to go to the restroom. While in the hallway, a different teacher or a school administrator notices the student, checks the pass, and uses their own PIN to end the pass early or assign a tardy badge to it. Because this second staff member was not the original sender or receiver, the system will highlight the record in Today's History to show an unexpected PIN was used.
