How to Bypass Websites or URLs from Securly's Proxy Servers

Securly provides robust filtering solutions to ensure online safety, but there may be instances where certain websites or URLs need to bypass our proxy servers for proper functionality. This article explains how to do this for SmartDNS, GuestDNS, and SmartPAC filtering methods. It’s important to note that Securly's Extension Filtering does not use proxy servers and therefore is unaffected by this process.

Affected Filtering Methods:

  • SmartDNS
  • GuestDNS
  • SmartPAC

Non-Affected Filtering Method:

  • Securly Extension Filtering: Websites do not route through Securly's proxy with this method, so no bypassing is required.

Steps to Bypass a Website or URL:

To bypass a website or URL from Securly’s proxy servers, you need to add the website to the Global Allow List. This will allow direct access to the site without routing through the proxy.

1. Log in to Securly Filter

  • Go to securly.com and log in to your Securly Filter account.

2. Navigate to the Policy Editor

  • Once logged in, go to the Policy Editor.

3. Add the Website/URL to the Global Allow List

  • Under the Global Settings tab, find the Allow/Block Lists.
  • In the Global Allow List, add the website or URL you want to bypass.
  • You should add both the domain and wildcard variations for full coverage:
    • domain.com
    • *.domain.com
For example, if you need to bypass a website like example.com:
    • Add example.com
    • Add *.example.com

4. Save Changes

  • After adding the necessary URLs, ensure that you save your changes.

Important Considerations:

  • Global Allow List: Adding a URL or domain here will bypass the proxy for all users under the selected policy.
  • Wildcard Entries: Using a wildcard entry like *.example.com ensures that all subdomains of the website are bypassed.
  • No Effect on Extension Filtering: If your school uses Securly Extension Filtering, this process is not required since the proxy is not used in that filtering method.

Example Use Cases

  • Bypassing gaming platforms (such as Epic Games) for specific devices.
  • Allowing access to services like Microsoft Translator, which might encounter issues behind a proxy.
