Classroom - What’s New in Classroom - July 2025

More responsive thumbnail refresh

In Securly Classroom, student device thumbnail images update every 4-6 seconds. Classroom will now also update thumbnails between the normal cycle when certain actions are performed, such as Screen Lock, Site Lock, Announce, Chat, and more. As a result, running a class should feel much more responsive.

Blocking Improvements

We’ve made three key improvements to how blocking plans work.

1. We’ve made changing blocking plans easier

We’ve made it easier to see and change which blocking plan is currently applied to a class session. Previously located under class options (the gear icon), your class’s active blocking plan is now shown directly in the class view. Click the plan name to change which blocking plan is applied.

2. You can now block sites even when no blocking plan is active

Previously, teachers were unable to block sites when there was no blocking plan active for the class. Now, if there’s no plan active, the site will be closed on the student's device and blocked for all students for the remainder of the class session.

3. You can more easily identify allow-only and block-only plans

When selecting a blocking plan, you can now see whether it’s an allow-only or block-only plan in the new Site Access column.

Archive and Unarchive multiple classes

You can now multi-select classes to archive or unarchive them in bulk. The List View in the Classes menu now allows multiple classes to be selected. Select classes, then use the Archive or Unarchive buttons on the action bar.

Warning when leaving a page with unsaved changes

When leaving a page with unsaved changes, you will now be prompted to save or discard the changes. You can close the message to return to editing.

Multi-select filters

The drop-down selectors on the Admin Dashboard and filters on some tables now allow multiple items to be selected.

Site access timestamps in History

Student browsing history now includes date and time stamps to indicate when a site was visited.

Native macOS agent released

The native agent for macOS is no longer in beta and is now available for general release. With the native agent for macOS, teachers can see the entire desktop on Mac devices, and close and block Mac apps like they can close tabs in the browser. The macOS extension doesn’t require any browser extension to be installed on student devices, nor does it require them to log in with a Google ID. You can generate all the files you need to deploy on macOS in the Deployment menu.

The following features have been added to the Mac agent since the previous release:

  • Announce
  • Student Screen Share
  • Teacher Screen Share
  • Hand Raise

Reminder: Switch to the new Chromebook Lost Mode kiosk

As announced previously, we’ve created a new Chromebook Lost Mode kiosk due to Google ending support for Chrome Apps (see Google’s post). We’ll soon be deprecating the previous Lost Mode app, so we encourage those with Chrome devices to update your settings in Google Admin to use the new application as soon as possible. Instructions can be found in this support article.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where students could bypass Site Lock if they rebooted, then connected to a session with no active blocking plan, but with Site Lock active.
  • Fixed an issue where the new archive/unarchive filter in the Classes menu was defaulting to show “all”.  This has been changed to default to “Not archived”.
  • Fixed an issue where the Announce badge was not showing on some students when sending an announcement to multiple students, but not the whole class.
