What’s New in Classroom 10.1 - April 2025

Seating Chart View

Teachers can now create seating charts that reflect the physical arrangement of each of their classes.

To create a seating chart for a class, from the Classes menu, click the three dot menu on any class card, then click Seating Chart.

When running a class, you’ll see “Seating chart” as a view option in the view selector dropdown.

New Header Bar in Class View

The header bar seen when running class has been reorganized to give teachers better access to change views and other options.

The header also has a new selector for Layout that allows the user to choose Grid, Seating Chart, or Groups (Groups used to be in its own menu).

The new View selector allows the user to choose Thumbnail, Thumbnail + Tab, Tab, or Rhithm.

The Layout selector and the new view selector will remember your most recent selection.

More control over Site Lock when starting a class

One of the popular options when using Site Lock is “Allow but do not open sites.”  This option is now available when choosing Site Lock to Collection in the session settings prior to starting a class and in the class options for scheduled classes.

This feature is similar to running a class session with an Allow-Only Blocking Plan, but has the benefit of releasing students individually or in groups once they finish their work and no longer need to be site locked.

Mac Agent Features

The native Mac agent for Classroom is getting some new features, including:

  • Tab list
  • Close tab and block
  • List of open Mac apps

Mac PKG Installer Generator

It’s now possible to generate and download a PKG installer for the Classroom native Mac agent from within Securly Classroom. Admins can access this function by going to Settings > Deployment > Mac.

Chromebook Lost Mode Kiosk Replacement

Google is discontinuing support for Chrome apps in kiosk mode starting in July 2025, extending through 2028 for some devices with long-term support (LTS) (see this article). You may already be receiving a banner in Google Admin with a notification.

We now have a replacement for the Securly Classroom Lost Mode kiosk application, which now runs as a regular web page. Read this KB article for instructions on how to configure the new app.
