Classroom macOS Beta FAQs

Enhanced macOS Support for Securly Classroom is currently available in beta. Here are some questions and answers to help you understand what the beta program will look like.

What is Enhanced macOS Support for Securly Classroom?

Enhanced macOS Support for Securly Classroom is designed to enhance the Securly Classroom experience on student devices that run macOS. If your school uses Macs for students this beta program may be of interest to you.

How do I enroll my school in the beta program for Enhanced macOS Support?

Fill out the form here, and if you qualify for the beta, you will receive an email with further instructions.

How do I deploy Securly Classroom to macOS devices?

Securly will provide a Mac PKG installer that can be distributed and installed on your school/district’s Mac devices. This is usually accomplished through your MDM.

You will also want to deploy a privacy profile through your MDM. We will provide instructions along with the PKG.

What features are available with Enhanced macOS Support?

The initial beta offering supports viewing of the entire Mac desktop and website blocking on Safari and Chrome through the use of blocking plans. Other Securly Classroom features will be added regularly throughout the school year and may already be available by the time you enter the beta program.

Can I access additional features by continuing to use the Securly Classroom Chrome extension on macOS devices?

Yes, the only caveat is that teachers will see duplicate student screens in their classes (one coming from the macOS agent, and one from the Chrome extension).

How does Site Lock / Blocking Plans work in Safari and Chrome?

If you have deployed our privacy profile allowing automation, it will work just like it does with the Chrome extension. The only exception is that the same plans will be active in Safari. The one install will control both browsers.

How do I provide feedback or report issues during the beta program?

Beta feedback can be provided by contacting Securly Support.

How do I update the Securly Classroom extension on macOS devices?

When you are contacted about the beta program, you will receive a link to a pkg file. As new features and fixes as added, we will automatically update the pkg provided at this link. You will then install the new pkg overtop the existing installation via your MDM.
