Filter - How does Securly scan keywords?

Securly Filter scans keywords on Google, Bing, Yahoo, YouTube, and Wikipedia to ensure that students are always displayed safe search results and protected from inappropriate content.

Admins can enable or disable keyword scanning if they find it necessary for any policy.

How to enable keyword scanning for a policy

  1. Log in to Securly Filter and go to the Policy Editor menu.
  2. Choose a policy, then scroll down to the "Keyword scanning" toggle.

  3. Securly Filter has numerous built-in keywords associated with each filtering category. Blocking a category will add the associated words from that category to keyword scanning.categories.png
  4. You can add additional keywords to the policy or global level Block list. Do this by going to a policy, then clicking the Allow/Block tab.

What does a blocked keyword look like from a student's view?

Whenever a user searches for a keyword related to any blocked categories they will be displayed a block page.

If a user searches for something from categories that are not blocked, but SafeSearch has been enabled, then SafeSearch results will appear.

This feature works well alongside other Securly Filter search features like Lock SafeSearch Modes and Restrict Image Search to Creative Commons.
