To enable alerts in Securly Filter, please follow the below steps.
Part 1: Turning on alerts for content and categories
If alerts are available for a setting, you'll see a green or grey bell icon showing whether it is enabled or disabled. A grey bell icon means alerts are off for that setting, while a green bell icon means alerts are on.
In the below example, alerts are turned on for the ‘Pornography’ and ‘Drugs’ cateories and they are turned off for the Gambling and Other Adult Content categories.
Alerts can also be enabled for the below settings:
- Limit access to only allowed sites
- Set 10-minute ban function.
- Keyword scanning
- Flag Gun related searches
You can also enable alerts for items added to Custom Policy Block lists.
Part 2: Configuring where alerts are sent
Configuring default notification email address
To configure a default notification email address, go to Settings > Notifications > Notification email for blocked activity.
Turn on the toggle if it's off and enter the email address where alerts will be sent.
Note: If Faculty or Safeguarding groups are configured to receive alerts, then email alerts will not be sent to the default notification email for the blocked activity.
Configuring alerts for Faculty/Safeguarding Groups
The second way to configure alerts is via the Faculty/Safeguarding Groups under Users > Faculty Groups.
From this area, you can create a group of users from your registered domain who can receive alerts and edit policies.
To create a new Faculty/Safeguarding Group, click on the Create Faculty Group button.
In the popup window on the right, enter a name for the group, followed by the email addresses of the users you wish to be a part of the group.
Click on the "Send blocked activity email alerts" checkbox to enable users in the group to receive alerts.
If you select the "Enable Policy Editing" option, the specified users in the faculty group will be able to edit the Filtering Policies of the users in the Security Groups or OUs which are assigned in the next steps.
Once the group has been created, you can open it and you will be presented with the following page.
The function of the tabs are as follows.
Users: This tab shows the users in the Faculty/Safeguarding Group and lets you add or remove members
Org Units (Google)/Security Groups (Microsoft): This tab lets you select the Google OUs or Microsoft Security Groups for which Faculty Group members will receive alerts.
Configuration: This tab lets you enable or disable alerts for the group's users.
In simple terms:
- The Users tab identifies who will receive the alerts, the people responsible for actioning alerts.
- The Org Units (Google)/ Security Groups (Microsoft) tab identifies the users or students the Faculty Group users are responsible for.
- The Configuration tab identifies if the alerting or policy editing is enabled or disabled.
