Pass - Can we block teachers from creating passes for certain students?

No. For student safety and emergency purposes, the system does not allow administrators to completely block a teacher's ability to create a pass for a specific student.

However, you can influence student behavior and teacher decisions by implementing Pass Limits.

How to Manage Student Movement

To restrict how often a student moves throughout the building, you can set specific limits within the administrative dashboard.

  • Daily Pass Limits: Set a maximum number of passes a student can use per day (this can be set to 0).

  • Active Pass Limits: Prevent students from having multiple active passes simultaneously, or entirely block hallway movement.

  • Location Availability: Restrict or grant access to students from visiting specific areas of the building.

  • Contact Controls: Prevent specific pairs of students from being in the hallway at the same time.

  • Location Max Caps: Set a maximum capacity for specific rooms to prevent overcrowding.

Important Considerations for Limits

When implementing these restrictions, please keep the following system behaviors in mind:

  • Teacher Pass: Passes created by a teacher do not count against a student’s daily limit.

  • Teacher Overrides: Teachers always have the authority to override a student's limit for emergencies or special circumstances.

How the Override Works

If a student has reached their limit (e.g., their limit is set to zero), the teacher will see a notification stating the limit has been reached. At this point, the teacher has two options:

  1. Grant the Pass: Override the limit and allow the student to leave.

  2. Deny the Pass: Keep the student in class.

Pro Tip: Encourage teachers to use the Comments section when overriding a limit to document the reason for the exception.
