FAQ: Dyknow Privacy Profile (macOS 10.14+)

If students at your district use macOS 10.14+, install the privacy profile. Due to a new policy for Macs in MDM environments, privacy profiles must be configured in your MDM. Until you push out the privacy profile, your Teachers will only see Safari or Chrome in the Activity Tracker during monitoring sessions and in Class/Student History.

The privacy profile is designed to set up Dyknow to work correctly with respect to the accessibility, automation, and screen recording settings on macOS. If the privacy profile is installed, accessibility and automation will be turned on. This is even true if the checkboxes in the Settings app show Dyknow as unchecked. Screen Recording is the only setting where students have to make the change themselves.

I CAN SEE THE DYKNOW PRIVACY PROFILE INSTALLED, BUT THERE ARE CHECKBOXES MISSING IN THE SECURITY & PRIVACY SECTION. DID IT WORK?

Yes. The Security & Privacy area indicates what options you have manually selected. Installing a privacy profile overrides these settings, but unfortunately, there is not a clear indicator of this in the user interface.

If Dyknow is showing up in the Profiles area, you installed it correctly.

WHEN I INSTALL I GET THIS MESSAGE: "Profile Installation Failed. The profile must be a system profile. User profiles are not supported."

This profile cannot be installed manually on the machine. It can only be installed from an Apple-approved MDM.
