Integrating your Google Workspace with Securly Filter or Securly Aware and importing all your OUs is easy. This will allow you to assign policies for each OU based on their requirements.
First-Time Users
If you have just signed up for Securly and are setting up your policies, follow the steps below to import all your OUs from Google Workspace to Securly.
- Log in to Securly Filter or Securly Aware. Note that for security reasons, only a super admin belonging to the primary domain or a member of the Admin group can import OUs.
- Navigate to the "Policy Map" and click the "Import OUs" button.
- Validate your Google credentials to verify that you are your organization's super admin.
Once your credentials are verified, all OUs from your school's Google Workspace will be imported to Securly Filter and Securly Aware and displayed to you under the Policy Map menu.
Note: At this time, all OUs will automatically be assigned to the default policy. You need to create and assign other policies to the OUs separately.
Updating OUs for new or moved users
As the school year progresses, you may move students, staff, or teachers between OUs. These changes need to be synced with Securly Filter to ensure that these users' online activity is filtered as per policy. This happens dynamically as every user update in Google Workspace is synced to Securly automatically.
If you delete an OU or change the name of an OU in Google Workspace, you will need to re-import all OUs manually for the changes to reflect in Securly Filter.
If you are a Securly DNS user, changes to the policy applied to a user will be reflected immediately, even if a user is actively browsing the internet at that time. Browser extension users can expect about a 30-minute delay. If you do not find the updated OU information and policy assignment reflected in Securly Filter within 24 hours, please run a manual OU import to reconnect Securly with your Google Workspace account.
For Securly Respond/On-Call
Under the Cases menu, select the Manage Org. Units tab. Click the refresh button (see screenshot).
Once the refresh is completed, verify the correct OUs are selected for coverage.
New Google Workspace OUs
Once you create a new OU in Google Workspace, the changes must be manually synced with Securly. This usually happens in the summer when you create OUs for the new graduation year, or after any time you reorganize your OU structure.
- Log in to Securly Filter.
- Navigate to the Policy Map menu and click on the refresh button. A list of all the domains listed with us will be displayed. Select the domain for which you want to sync OUs.
- All manual OU import requests require verifying your credentials. Once verified, the OUs will be updated in Securly.
You can now go ahead and assign policies to any new OUs that you may have imported.
