Improved Management and Visibility for Archived Classes
You can now determine which roles can archive and unarchive classes. To do so, assign the new “Archive classes” permission to the roles of your choice in Settings > Permissions.
Archived classes are now visible in the main card view of the Classes menu. A folder icon next to a class’s name indicates that the class is archived. Previously, archived classes were only visible in the list view.
The “Include archived” checkbox has been replaced with a dropdown selector, making it possible to filter the class list to show only archived classes.
New Roster Integration Options
Two new options are available in Settings > System, found in the new Roster Integrations section.
-
Shorten synced usernames to 20 characters: This can be useful for districts using Windows student devices, which have a 20-character limit on the SAMAccountName that gets passed by the agent at login. Refer to this article for more on how Securly Classroom matches usernames.
- Reset User Roles: After users are imported via roster sync, an admin may change a user’s role manually or through a CSV import. Classroom keeps the changed value for these users rather than updating them on the next sync. The Reset User Roles option will reset the manually or CSV-updated roles to match the most recent sync.
Mac Apps in Blocking Plans
Mac apps can now be added to Blocking Plans. Mac and Windows apps appear in the same Apps list, with an OS icon indicating which platform(s) the app applies to.
Mac Apps in the Organization Block List
Mac apps can now be added to the organizational blocked apps list under Settings > Allow & Block on the Blocked Apps tab. Similar to the Blocked Sites list, apps on this list are blocked on devices at all times, not just during class sessions.
Mac Agent Updates
The native Mac agent now supports Securly Classroom’s Chat feature. Chat allows teachers to communicate 1-on-1 with students while class sessions are active.
Windows Agent Updates
- Securly Classroom can now manage the Microsoft Edge sidebar. The Edge sidebar will appear as a tab and can be closed or blocked.
- Support has been added for Chrome and Edge 136.
- Performance improvements when blocking sites in Edge on Windows.
Other Changes
- Roster sync for Clever will now import the student Grade and School data if available, similar to Classlink and OneRoster sync.
- The 20-character limitation on the username field has been removed.
- The Chrome Devices table in the Devices menu now shows the public IP address of devices. This field can also be searched.
Fixes
- In prior versions, when a student got assigned to a new school during a roster sync, Classroom would retain the old school assignment and add the new one to it. Now the system properly replaces the old school assignment with the new one, keeping the sync source as the source of truth.
- Fixed an issue where multimedia apps would prevent Classroom from fully blocking them on Windows.
