With the introduction of Google Chrome’s Manifest v3 extension framework, new browser behaviors have created opportunities for students to briefly bypass filtering rules before a page is fully evaluated. In response, Securly has implemented an enhancement to the Filter extension that closes this loophole and strengthens policy enforcement.
What’s Changing
Effective immediately, the Securly Filter extension will display an overlay on all web content until the site has been fully evaluated against your filtering policies. This ensures that no content is rendered or accessible until it has been explicitly permitted.
Why This Matters
Chrome's Manifest v3 introduced asynchronous behavior in extension execution, allowing savvy users to exploit the delay between a page load request and filtering response. This overlay is designed to prevent these exploits which were introduced as part of the Manifest v3 platform.
What Users Will See
When users navigate to a new site, they may briefly see a loading overlay on the page. This overlay disappears automatically once Securly Filter confirms the site is allowed by the user’s policy. No action is required from users or administrators.
