A class in Securly Classroom can have multiple teachers assigned to it, allowing additional staff like teaching assistants, principals, or tech coaches to help keep students on task.
Note that if you’re looking to solely track a group of students throughout the school day without being assigned as a co-teacher to every class, you can create observation groups. This monitoring solution does not interfere with the control or visibility of the regular classroom teacher(s). This is particularly helpful for educators such as special education teachers.
To add a co-teacher to a class in Securly Classroom, follow these steps:
- Go to the class.
- Open the class settings.
- Click the "+" button in the upper right corner.
- Add the desired teacher.

FAQs
How many teachers can each class have?
There is no limit to the number of teachers a class can have.
How many teachers can monitor a class simultaneously?
If a class session is already active, all teachers assigned to that specific class can monitor it simultaneously by navigating to the “Active sessions” tab from the “Classes” menu.
Can a teacher see all other teachers that are assigned to their class?
Yes, any teacher assigned to a class can identify the other teachers assigned to that class in the Teachers section in Class settings.
You can use the three-dot icon in the card view or simply click on the class in the list view to go to the class settings.
Can classes with multiple teachers be combined?
Yes, classes with multiple teachers can be combined with other classes.
Do all teachers assigned to a class have the same permissions?
No, not all teachers assigned to a class have the same permissions. The ability to modify class settings or use class session tools depends on the role (Teacher 1, Teacher 2) assigned to them and the permissions granted to each of these two roles.
Note that only an organization admin can modify permissions by navigating to Settings > Permissions.
Do permissions for SIS-assigned teachers differ from manually-assigned teachers?
No, manually created teachers or those synced from any SIS do not affect permissions. Permissions are determined by the role assigned to each teacher and the settings enabled for that role.
When importing teachers, aides, and admins from OneRoster, ClassLink, or other LMS using Securly Sync, their roles can be mapped from the Roster Integration settings. Admins (and technicians, if granted permission) can also change user roles manually from the Users menu.
Can teachers add co-teachers to LMS-synced classes like Canvas, ClassLink, or Schoology?
Yes, teachers can manually add additional teachers (co-teachers) to classes that sync with Securly Classroom from any source (i.e. an LMS). To do this, use the "+" button in the class settings menu.
Can co-teachers edit a blocking plan?
No, when multiple teachers are assigned to a class, they can only view and use the blocking plan if the “Make public” toggle settings is turned on for the plan.
They can also clone or delete it from the Blocking Plans menu if the plan’s visibility is public.
