How to Enable the "Force Maximize" Setting in Securly Classroom

The Force Focused (Active) Window to Maximize feature in Securly Classroom is designed to help teachers maintain students' focus during lessons. When enabled, this option automatically maximizes the currently active window on the student’s Chromebook. It ensures that students are working within a single window, preventing them from splitting screens or using side windows to access unrelated content (e.g., YouTube or Netflix) while the teacher sees only the focused window in thumbnail view.

Benefits of the Feature:

  • Enhanced Focus: Ensures students stay on task by forcing the active window to maximize to full screen.
  • Prevents Multitasking: Reduces the likelihood of students keeping unrelated content (like videos or social media) open alongside their schoolwork.
  • Improves Monitoring: Teachers can be sure that what they see in thumbnail view is the only window the student is interacting with.

How to Enable the Setting:

  1. Log in to Securly Classroom:

    • Navigate to your Securly Classroom account via securly.com.
  2. Access "My Account" Settings:

    • Once logged in, go to the My Account settings at the top right corner of the interface.
  3. Locate the Setting:

    • In the account settings, look for the option called "Force focused (active) window to maximize."
  4. Enable the Setting:

    • Toggle this setting to enable it for your classroom session.

Important Notes:

  • This setting is specific to each teacher’s account and applies to their sessions.
  • Students must be using Chromebooks for this feature to work correctly.

By using this feature, teachers can help ensure a distraction-free environment, improving student focus and maintaining control over what is displayed on student devices during lessons.
